SKYEUROPE PERSONALITIES

Talk us though a typical day at work

I wish there was one! You can be dealing with planning one moment and then with aircraft financing or personnel issues the next. It changes every day, but that’s what makes it so exciting.

What is the best thing about working for an airline?

It’s a sexy business – you get to see a lot of the world – plus it’s very fast moving. Working for a low-cost airline, you are making travel affordable and you’re giving people an opportunity to get away.

What sets SkyEurope apart from other airlines?

We’re operating in a part of the world that’s up and coming – we’re giving a chance for people in the area to travel more than before. Also, the people that work here have a positive attitude and the company feels young and innovative. A lot of airlines feel stale – but we feel dynamic.

What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?

Barcelona – it’s a unique place. I love the classical guitar music there. It’s beautiful and the people are very friendly.

SkyEurope has new destinations for the summer – Alicante, Olbia, Trieste and Istanbul – which is your favourite?

Istanbul is a wonderful place – it has a lot of history and really friendly people. Great food and music too. It takes a few visits to absorb it all.

What’s the worst souvenir you’ve ever bought anyone?

A fridge magnet!

New Boeing 737-700NG for SkyEurope

SkyEurope Airlines recently took delivery of its fifteenth Boeing 737-700NG and the team went all the way to Seattle to receive it. All 737s are now produced in the town of Renton in Washington State and take a matter of weeks to construct.

We got to Seattle on a Monday evening and, even after a tiring transatlantic flight, could not resist going to have a look at the new plane, which was waiting at Boeing Field. SkyEurope’s test captain, Miroslav Medzihradský, took his seat in the cockpit. So far he has test-flown all of SkyEurope’s NGs and he was pleased to find that everything worked like clockwork. SkyEurope’s Chief Executive, Jason Bitter, also flew in to take delivery of the 15th new addition to the most modern fleet in Europe. Thanks to the new NG, the SkyEurope Airlines fleet now boasts a record-breaking average age of 1 year, making it the most modern fleet in Europe at the moment.
